Coronavirus Update Letter 28th September 2020

Dear Parent/Carer

Further to my letter of 7th July 2020 I am delighted to confirm that St Michael’s Catholic High School will be open to welcome our new Year 7 students on Monday 7th September along with our new Year 12 students and will be welcoming back all other Year Groups to school on Tuesday 8th September. In my letter of 7th July 2020 I outlined a number of the measures that the school is taking to keep everyone safe during this Coronavirus-Covid 19 pandemic. Following a site visit from our independent Health and Safety Consultants, Ellis Whittam, on Friday 28th August I will write again to all parents outlining any additional measures that we will be putting in place at St Michael’s to mitigate risk.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

A Message from Mr Edwards regarding the School Buses

Dear all,

I am pleased to announce that Sullivan Buses have been excellent in helping provide us, at short notice, an amended route that will serve Year 10 students should they return for the their face to face sessions with subject teachers until the end of term.  I am very grateful for the work they have put into adapting the route to allow them to collect as many students as possible en route to and from school.

If you do decide to use the route please note the TIMES and LOCATIONS are different from what you are used to.  The route is a combination of the 833 and 306 in order to collect as many as possible.  We will only be having two classes of Year 10 in at any one time, so I do not anticipate the usual crowding

I have been asked to remind you that as of Monday 15th June the wearing of face coverings on all forms of public transport is a requirement.  Please can you ensure this happens and remind your son/daughter to comply with social distancing measures whilst travelling on the bus.

If you have any questions you wish to ask please do feel free to contact me at school (01923 673760 extension 1309) or on by e-mail – edwards.n@stmichaelscatholichighschool.co.uk

Please do pass on your thanks to Sullivan Buses for helping alleviate a potential obstacle to attending school at these unusual hours.

Mr Edwards

Update from Mr Conway - 21st April 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

Further to my letter yesterday I wanted to inform you of additional developments which will assist your child’s learning. The Government has announced the launch of a number of packages to support online learning, including what they claim will be high quality resources from the BBC Bitesize and the Oak National Academy. The Oak National Academy is a new online classroom and resource hub, that is launched to support teachers until schools re-open. The online classroom will provide free lessons and resources for students from reception through to year 10. The key difference between the BBC offer and the Oak National Academy is that the Academy is a planned and sequenced series of lessons for schools and trusts to use as part of their planned curriculum offer. The Academy offers 180 video lessons each week for schools to use, across a broad range of subjects. Whereas the BBC offer is aimed more at parents and students. It is an education package across TV and online, featuring celebrities and teachers, helping to keep children learning at home and supporting parents.

The Oak National Academy can be accessed here:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesizeThe above resources do not replace Edulink or Google classroom but should be used in addition and as a further learning tool.

Update on Year 11 and 13 Grades

Following guidance from Ofqual and the Exam Boards, we are currently putting into place a process that will calculate grades for students in Years 11 and 13 who were due to sit GCSE and A’ level exams this term.  Without going into the finer detail, you should know that the process will be exceedingly thorough, and all grades will be subjected to moderation both within the school and externally. Work has begun to organise  the information held on students’ attainment and progress through their GCSE and A Level courses so that accurate forecasts can be made by teachers and Subject Leaders, overseen by myself and the Senior Leadership Team.  We are not permitted to share these grades with students under any circumstances. The A level grades will be available for students on 13 August and the GCSE grades will be available on 20 August which is in line with the publication of grades in every annual public exam series.

We are still waiting for final confirmation regarding how BTEC results will be formalised and the date of issue to students. As soon as we have confirmation we will immediately inform you. Should you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Thank you for your ongoing understanding concerning Year 11 and 13.

I hope that you find this information useful and please stay safe.

Yours sincerely,

Edward Conway.

Headteacher's Letter - 20th April 2020

Ofqual Letter to Exam Students - 3rd April 2020OFQUAL has updated its advice to Year 11 and Year 13 exam students of 3rd April.  As school closes on this day for the Easter break, we request that any queries be delayed until the new term starts.

Exams Update for Year 11 and Year 13  26th March 2020

Earlier in the week, we requested that you begin to compile and send work to us that could be used as evidence in helping your teacher through the process of allocating predicted grades. Since this request and following the latest Government guidelines, it is important that you do not visit school to drop off work under any circumstances. What we ask from this point on, is that you continue to prepare any evidence that you may wish to submit in the future, but unless it can be sent electronically to your teacher, you simply keep it in your possession until requested. This means that any previously set deadline is no longer relevant. Please continue to monitor your Edulink or google classroom platform for further information. Once we are in receipt of further information from the Government and exam boards, we will naturally keep you informed. In the meantime, stay safe and thank you for your understanding.

Coronavirus Update 23rd March 2020

Update to Advice on School Closure 21st March 2020

Unless parents have replied to the Google docs form and meet the designated criteria, the government advice is that their children remain at home from Monday 23rd March. All students who qualify under the criteria for attendance have been individually contacted by the school.
CORONAVIRUS UPDATE – SCHOOL CLOSURE TO MOST STUDENTS
Following my previous letters, I am writing to inform you that we have now been instructed to close the school to almost all children after Friday 20 March 2020 until further notice.
As advised by the Government, we will do all we can to stay open for the children of key workers (e.g. NHS staff, police, others in frontline services) and children with certain needs.
We are waiting for the Government to publish more information on what this means, but it would help us in the meantime if you would complete a Google Doc Form, (if you think your child is eligible to continue attending school), by clicking on the link below:
We will contact you again once we have collated this information.
All forms must be completed by 12pm on Friday 20 March 2020
All other students WILL BE REQUIRED TO STAY AT HOME UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE and we ask that you do not send your child into school from Monday onwards.
E. Conway
